The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, has promised to partner with the National Commission on Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) on mass literacy.

This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of NMEC, Professor Akpama Ibor, to UBEC headquarters in Abuja.

According to UBEC boss, the two agencies discussed the array of opportunities for partnership and potential areas for collaboration, including joint programmes, resource sharing, and capacity-building initiatives.

She emphasised leveraging each organisation’s strengths to create a more comprehensive and effective approach to promoting basic education in Nigeria.

Similarly, discussions centred around innovative strategies to reduce illiteracy rates, such as community-based learning centres, mobile education units, and digital literacy programmes.

For his part, Professor Ibor made emphasis on the significance of non-formal education in providing flexible learning opportunities for adults and out-of-school youths and ideas for continuous education programmes that support lifelong learning and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu administration.
