Youth groups from several northern states have expressed support for the upcoming Qur’an convention, which will be held in Abuja on February 22nd, 2025.

Comrade Murtala Mohammed Garba (Gamji), leader of the group and immediate past president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), said in an interview in Abuja that their support is based on the premise that the festival will unite the entire Nigerian ummah spiritually, physically, and socially.

He said that no matter the differences of sects in Nigeria, the Qur’an unites all Muslims. Therefore, the event organisers must be commended, especially the Sultan of Sokoto, Imam Dahiru Usman Bauchi, Sheik Qaribullah, and Sheikh Bala Lau.

Comrade Gamji, however, called on all dissenting Imams and their followers who are sceptical of the convention’s good intentions to put aside their selfish interests so as not to demoralise the Muslim Ummah from attending the convention.

He said the inaugural event, expected to bring together at least 30,000 individuals who have committed the Quran to memory, would allow participants to engage in discussions and share knowledge, aiming to improve the understanding of the Quran.

Garba, who also promotes the Elders Youth Forum of Nigeria, said the convention is not a political affair and is not being sponsored by anyone.
