A professor of Physics and bishop of Eastern West Africa Episcopal District of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church Calabar, Bishop Uduak Effiong has called for interrogation of politicians jostling to occupy the seat of president on what they have in stock for the nation’s education sector.
The academic who is now a cleric called on Nigerians not to hesitate to interrogate candidates presented by the country’s political parties ahead of the 2023 general election on how they intend to solve the challenges in the health, power, economy and other areas.
The cleric made the call while answering questions from journalists ahead of the 25th Annual Conference of the church scheduled to take place in Calabar at the weekend.
Speaking on the theme: “The Freedom Church, sharing our faith and securing our future,” the cleric stated that time has come when people no longer need to vote on the basis of political parties but on the basis of attitude and character.
“We need to interrogate our leaders, where do you used to go for treatment whenever you fall sick?
“If you cannot fix our hospitals therefore, you have a question mark. We need to interrogate them even on our utilities. Look at where we are today.
“How many times have our national grid collapsed? Look at the cost of diesel used to power the manufacturing sector. Very high. It’s the reason for cost of things increasing.”
While urging the electorates to interrogate candidates on infrastructure, the cleric said, “How come the cost of building a road in Nigeria is higher than another African country?”
