Nigerian, 2 Others Win YouthGive Africa Changemakers Prize

Babatunde Bale, a Nigerian, has won the 2024 YouthGive contest, which celebrates the power of generosity and impact among young Africans.

The other winners are Narau Kimani Laizer from Tanzania and Nkuubi Dominic Savio from Uganda.

YouthGive Africa, an initiative of GivingTuesday Africa, announced the three winners from over 500 submissions.

Bale from Nigeria emerged as the winner for his Vision Without Borders project, which provided sight-restoring solutions to over 400 residents in Makoko, Lagos. He received a cash prize of $1,500.

Laizer from Tanzania was the 1st Runner-Up for her work empowering Maasai girls and promoting conservation through the Enduata Community Initiative Organisation. She received a cash prize of $1,000.

Savio from Uganda was the 2nd Runner-Up for his dedication to youth empowerment and social learning through the Youth Volunteer Corps, Uganda Chapter. He received a cash prize of $500.

Bidemi Adedire, the communications manager and point lead for the contest, said, “These young leaders represent the best of Africa’s spirit of generosity, courage, and resilience.

Their stories prove that even small actions can lead to big changes.”

He said the winners’ generosity and leadership qualities inspire them to imagine a brighter future for the continent.

“Our goal is to not only celebrate their achievements but to ensure these stories inspire others and redefine what giving looks like in Africa today,” Adedire added.

The YouthGive Contest is part of the broader Giving Tuesday Africa movement, which aims to amplify African practices and traditions, inspire collective action, and celebrate generosity in all its forms.
