A leading Nigerian technology company, Chedaro, has unveiled a scholarship programme aimed at equipping young Africans with critical digital skills, as part of broader efforts to boost participation in the continent’s growing digital economy.

The scholarship programme, dubbed “Equip by Chedaro,” will provide three months of intensive training in artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital marketing, web development, and blockchain technology.

This initiative comes as Nigeria’s digital economy is experiencing significant growth.  According to recent reports, Nigeria’s internet penetration has soared, creating a large market for digital services.  However, a significant skills gap exists, hindering the country’s ability to fully capitalise on this potential.  Youth unemployment also remains a major challenge, with many young graduates lacking the practical skills needed by employers in the tech sector.

According to the chief executive officer of Chedaro, Victor Uno, the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to driving meaningful societal change through technology.

“Our goal is to provide young people with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the digital economy. This programme is a step towards building a future where talent and opportunity meet,” Uno said.

The 90-day programme will commence on February 10, 2025.  Interested candidates are encouraged to apply early as spaces are limited.  Applications can be submitted via https://www.chedaro.com/equip-by-chedaro-scholarship.

“This isn’t just about individual advancement, we’re looking to create a ripple effect where these trained professionals become changemakers in their communities and industries,” Uno said.

He explained that the scholarship programme will provide successful applicants with access to high-quality training that many young people typically find cost-prohibitive.

“It will feature industry expert-led training, hands-on projects, and networking opportunities with potential employers. Participants who complete the course will receive recognised certifications in their chosen fields,” he added.
