Why My Friendship With Davido Ended – VeryDarkMan

Social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has explained how his friendship with Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido collapsed following disagreements over the demand for justice for late singer Mohbad.

VDM made this known in a video shared on Thursday, recounting how the issue that initially brought them together eventually became the source of their fallout.

He said he became actively involved in the campaign for justice following Mohbad’s death in September 2023, which sparked widespread public outrage and questions about the circumstances surrounding the singer’s demise.

According to VDM, Davido followed him on social media in early 2024, a development he said initially left him starstruck because of the singer’s celebrity status.

The two subsequently developed a friendship, with VDM occasionally showing support for Davido by promoting his songs and new releases.

However, he said things took a different turn following his arrest in 2024 and the discovery of a WhatsApp group chat in 2025.

VDM alleged that the group included individuals associated with Davido and other entertainment industry figures, with conversations suggesting that some members had planned his arrest because of his persistent calls for answers over Mohbad’s death.

The critic said he made several attempts to contact Davido to find out why people within his circle were allegedly targeting him.

He claimed that Davido failed to respond to his calls, while a blog linked to the singer’s associates later suggested that he wanted to record a conversation with the musician to blackmail him.

Describing the experience as a betrayal, VDM said he was disappointed by the development because he had genuinely considered Davido a friend.

The revelation comes amid the ongoing exchange between VDM and Nigerian rapper Zlatan, which also drew Davido into the controversy.

The singer recently came under scrutiny after a video emerged showing him dancing to Zlatan’s song, INFERNO, at his wedding welcome party in Morocco. The track contains lyrics directed at VDM, further fuelling the tension between the social media critic and the rapper.
