The Nigerian Legion has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zircon Projects Ltd. to establish an Armed Forces Veterans Federation Fund (AFVFF) to boost its financial base.
The national chairman of the Nigerian Legion (NL), Maj. Gen. Abdulmalik Jibril (Rtd.), who signed on behalf of the Nigerian Legion, said the signing is a landmark moment that signifies the kick-starting of a process for the Legion to enhance its financial base.
He called on the private sector, stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians to support this noble cause so that the legion could properly discharge its mandate, catering to Nigerian veterans’ general welfare, to raise the required funds.
“By actively seeking financial support from international and local agencies, the AFVFF will serve as a critical mechanism to bridge the resource gaps that often hinder the Nigerian Legion’s ability to deliver on its mission of care and service”.
Maj. Gen. Abdulmalik Jibril (Rtd.) said the Legion, which is a brand in its effort to be independent, has the right to establish hotels, schools, hospitals, and banks and go into agriculture production.
In his remark, Supo Phillips, Director, Zircon Projects Ltd., said the AFVFF is a private sector initiative aimed at addressing the funding gap of the Nigerian Legion and therefore called for support from all Nigerians.
