No fewer than four people were reportedly killed, with many Injured in the violence that erupted in Esa-Oke, Obokun local government area of Osun State over the appointment of a monarch for Ido-Ajegunle by the Osun State government.
It would be recalled that the state government announced the appointment of Prince Timileyin Ajayi as the monarch over Ido-Ajegunle by the state government.
It was gathered that tension mounted in Esa-Oke following the announcement of a monarch on a community in their domain without the approval of the Owamiran of Esa-Oke.
It was gathered that violence erupted on Monday when men in police uniform allegedly invaded Esa-Oke, shooting sporadically following the resistance of Esa-Oke youths to allow the policemen to gain access into their community.
The state police command said following the deployment of its men to the troubled community, no fewer than seven of them were injured by the youths.
The state command PPRO, Yemisi Opalola, said the command deployed men to the community to broker peace and assured that peace would be restored soonest.
However, the Esa-Oke community has accused the state government of being the brain behind the crisis by imposing a stranger as a monarch.
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo yesterday, Mr Oladiti Awodiran, who spoke on behalf of Esa-Oke Central Union, disclosed that no fewer than four people were killed, with many wounded in the melee that erupted in the community on Monday morning.
His words,” With utmost regret and profound sadness, I have to address you this afternoon concerning the tragic event that occurred today in Esa Oke, a hitherto peaceful community in Obokun, which is the local government of Osun State.
“My heart bleeds, and my headaches as I stand before you today to inform you that men in Police uniform invaded the Esa-Oke community and started shooting sporadically, leading to the death of no fewer than four youths while several others were wounded in the mayhem.
“The pandemonium broke out as a result of the announcement by Governor Ademola Adeleke that a stranger has been appointed as Oba or Baale in a community within Esa-Oke town.’’
