The chancellor and chairman of the Board of Regents, Covenant University, Dr David Oyedepo, has stressed the need to sustain investments in the education sector, saying development and success are hinged on constant re-investment in different value chains of education in the nation.

He stated this at the matriculation of undergraduates, postgraduates and open and distance e-learning students for Friday’s 2024/2025 Academic session at the university campus, calling on the newly matriculated students to align with the institution’s robust system.

Oyedepo noted that the mode of training defines the outcome of the trainees. “Our graduates are flying around the world today as a result of our mode of training. Our mould works and is working. Our graduates are also number one in their various endeavours. This is the result of the kind of training they went through. I prayed those coming in would buy into it and not be the odd ones out. We need to sustain our investment in the education sector and ensure it aligns with our dreams and vision”.

Oyedepo stated.

The chancellor also challenged the students to commit themselves to the rigour of studying, noting that “There is no star without a scar, and the scar of every star is sacrifice. Get ready to pay the price if you want the prize.”

He also admonished the parents and guidance to ensure that their children and wards aligned with the model even as the university tries to equip the students to be solution providers to the myriad of challenges worldwide.

In his remarks, the vice-chancellor, Professor Timothy Anake, challenged the students to embrace the culture of excellence that defines the institution and utilise the wealth of resources available to them.

“As we formally admit you into the Covenant University family, I challenge you to embrace this privilege with gratitude and determination. Commit to the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, and service. The journey ahead will be demanding, but it will also be rewarding,” he assured.

Covenant University admitted 2,449 students, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and open and distance e-learning (CCODeL) students. No fewer than 190 pioneer learners of the Covenant Centre for Open and Distance e-Learning (CCODeL) signed the covenant oath at the centre last Friday.
