The Cross River State government has shown interest in collaborating with the Russian Government to develop its solid mineral industry and train professionals in areas like mineral exploration and healthcare.
Governor Bassey Edet Otu made this known during a diplomatic and business meeting yesterday with Mr Maxim Petrov, the Russian Trade Commissioner to Nigeria, and Senior Counselor Mr. Sergei Pliushchov at the Russian Embassy in Nigeria.
He was accompanied by Dr Prince Michael Nku Abuo, his Special Adviser on Intervention and Grants, as well as the Cross River State Coordinator for AUDA/NEPAD.
Governor Otu highlighted that Cross River State is rich in both mineral resources and human potential, offering an ideal environment for business and leisure.
He expressed his hope that the Russian Government would collaborate with the state to unlock these opportunities.
In response, Mr Maxim Petrov, on behalf of the Russian Government, assured the governor of Russia’s readiness to partner in areas like solid mineral mapping, exploration, and analysis.
He also mentioned opportunities for scholarships, accommodation in Russia for students pursuing scientific fields, healthcare training, and support for investors interested in building processing and refining plants in Cross River State.
Dr Prince Michael Nku Abuo concluded by thanking the Russian Government for these opportunities and assuring them of full support from Governor Otu and the people of Cross River State, ensuring the success of this promising partnership.
