Professor of Counseling Psychology at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Ngozi Osarenrem, has decried the absence of institutional loyalty by the University of Calabar alumni, advocating for loyalty to the institution irrespective of where they now find themselves.

Osarenrem made the advocacy while interacting with LEADERSHIP,  shortly after  she delivered a speech during the occasion of UNICAL at 50 Colloquium ceremony which took place at the UNICAL International Conference Centre Wednesday.

She advocated for continuous loyalty to the institution notwithstanding the fact that they have graduated and fate  catapulted them to high places of authority which they find themselves at the moment.

“As graduates of this great institution, we must strive to remain relevant notwithstanding where we find ourselves.

“The only problem we have is, we lacked institutional loyalty. No matter who we are today, let’s not forget that the foundation is here.

“We are coming next month to mark the institution’s 50th anniversary. How many of us are willing to show up to plough back what we got from this great institution?”

She called on all alumni of the University of Calabar, at home and in diaspora, to return back to the institution and participate in the celebration of the University’s 50th anniversary scheduled to be held next month.

Earlier, UNICAL’s vice chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, charged the institution’s alumni not to neglect their alma mater during the 50th anniversary celebration so that they could  participate in the celebration of a humble beginning to whatever status they had attained today.

She appealed to the alumni to come out en masse  and join hands with the management of their former institution to mark, celebrate  , and reflect on their humble beginnings and on the remarkable journey that brought them to whatever position they occupy at the moment.

“As we mark this significant occasion, we reflect on the remarkable journey that has brought us to where we are today.

“From a humble beginning to our current status as one of the premier institutions of higher learning, our university has consistently demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, infrastructural revolution and community service.
