The African School of Governance (ASG), a Pan-African Graduate Institution that is poised to bring about trans-generational change in mindset and impart knowledge that will tackle the problems of leadership and corruption in Africa, is set to welcome its first cohort of students in September 2025 with Professor Kingsley Moghalu as its inaugural president.

This was disclosed at an event held in Lagos to sensitise the public and educate applicants on how to enrol in the first-of-its-kind university located in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

In his speech, Prof Kingsley Moghalu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, stated that the ASG is a groundbreaking graduate institution to transform leadership and governance across Africa.
He noted that the institution, co-founded by the president of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, and the former president of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Desalegn, seeks to nurture current and future leaders capable of driving sustainable development, economic growth, and social transformation across Africa while elevating Africa’s voice in global governance discussions.
Moghalu said, “Solutions to Africa’s problems lie in the need to change the mindsets of leaders and the governed, impart the proper knowledge, and train Africans with the right skills to transform Africa.

“Africa School of Governance, with my humble self as its inaugural president and vice-chancellor, will seek to train the next generation of leaders in Masters of Public Administration (MPA) and also welcome present leaders across the public sector and private sector to undergo Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA) and also General Executive Courses and other short courses.

“We had seen how the Harvard Kennedy School founded in 1936 has galvanised transformation in the western world, ASG which is coming now, will do same to Africans as we have lecturers and professors with a track record that will impart the students and also former leaders and ex-presidents namely, Dr Ebele Goodluck Jonathan, Chef Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, among others will also take sessions to give practical knowledge to the students,” says Moghalu.

He added that the application for the school had opened with a portal available. This will allow interested persons across Africa to apply as it is a Master’s Degree institution and if they meet the criteria.

According to him, they will form the first cohort of ASG students, which is estimated to begin with about a hundred students, with the fee being fifteen thousand dollars.

Fielding questions from select journalists, the erudite professor with a track record stated that aside from strategic partnerships that ASG has made, the institution will kick off short courses in June, and the main course of a two-year duration at the Kigali campus is scheduled for September 2025 as plans are in advance stage.
