Protesters, on Wednesday, blocked the entrances to the National Assembly complex and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja, lamenting the delay in the investigation of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

This is even as the EFCC has said the Commission will look into the petition in due time and take necessary actions.

Speaking exclusively to LEADERSHIP, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said: “the Commission will look into it accordingly,” assuring that it was following due process.

Recall that last week, LEADERSHIP had exclusively reported that the EFCC received a petition to investigate PAP over alleged mismanagement of funds.

At the National Assembly, the protesters urged the lawmakers to compel investigation into the allegations of financial misappropriation at the PAP.

The protesters, led by Odey Otunu, the convenor of the Niger Delta Liberators and Ex-Agitators Forum (NDLEF), include men and women carrying different placards to drive home their demands.

The protesters noted that they cannot fold their hands and watch those who are supposed to be beacons of hope and pilots of development in the Niger Delta region become its nightmares.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Otunu implored President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to conduct a thorough investigation into the complaints lodged against PAP and its leadership, alleging that the supposed interventionist agency was fast becoming a conduit pipe for treasury looters.

Otunu further informed the authorities that the administration of PAP has awarded contracts to companies outside their mandates, adding that investigations have further revealed that most of these companies are not even registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

He said, “We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consolidate his renewed thrust for fiscal probity and governance accountability by compelling all relevant anti-graft agencies to beam their searchlight on the horrendous financial activities.”
