The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has intensified its call for the federal government to do everything in its power to secure the release of Leah Sharibu and others still held captive by Boko Haram terrorists.

This appeal comes as the nation marks seven years since Leah’s abduction on February 19, 2018 in Yobe State.

In a statement signed by the President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the apex Christian organisation expressed deep solidarity with Leah’s family and all those who suffer from her absence.

The statement explained Leah’s remarkable courage and unwavering faith amid profound adversity, calling her a shining beacon of hope and inspiration for many.

“Today, as we mark over seven years since the abduction of Leah Sharibu by Boko Haram insurgents, CAN stands united with her family and all who continue to endure the pain of her absence.

“Her prolonged captivity serves as a painful reminder of the insecurity plaguing our nation and the urgent need to safeguard the fundamental right to freedom of religion,” he stated.

CAN urged the Federal Government to intensify its efforts to bring Leah home, asserting that no sacrifice was too great for the safe return of their “daughter.”

The association also appealed to the international community to join the fight by lending their voices and resources to support Leah’s plight.

CAN further called upon all Nigerians, particularly the Christian community, to come together in prayer and action for Leah and the restoration of peace across the nation.

“Let us transcend denominational lines and work as one body to advocate for justice,” Okoh urged.

The Christian association expressed hope for Leah’s imminent return to her loved ones, assuring her family of its unwavering support.

“We remain hopeful that Leah will soon return to her loved ones, and we assure her family of our unrelenting support,” he said.

Furthermore, CAN called upon the government, security agencies, and all relevant stakeholders to take decisive measures to combat the violence that has afflicted the nation and to restore safety for all citizens.
