Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said work would soon commence at the Ndibe Beach Bridge linking Ebonyi and Cross River States.
Umahi disclosed this when he visited the Ndibe Beach in Afikpo alongside other staff of the ministry for the last phase inspection of the Ndibe Beach Bridge for construction.
The minister assured people of the area that President Bola Tinubu was committed to ensuring that all the projects embarked upon by the Renewed Hope Agenda administration would be completed in record time, adding that the Ndibe Beach Bridge was part of the project that would benefit the people of Ebonyi and Cross River.
Umahi urged the people to continue to support the administration of President Tinubu adding that the president remained committed to the development of the South East, especially road infrastructure in the zone.
He said all is now set for the commencement of the project having secured all the necessary approvals and called on the people of the area to ensure the protection of lives and property of those that would carry out the job.
Reacting, the leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and member representing Afikpo West State Constituency, Hon. Kingsley Ikoro, commended the minister for attracting the project for the people of Afikpo.
Enumerating the importance of linking Ebonyi and Cross River, Hon Ikoro maintained that it would ensure economic growth, easy transportation of goods and services and open up the area for wider development.
Ikoro who described the project as a legacy project of the Renewed Hope Agenda administration of President Tinubu noted that the people of Afikpo over the years had yearned for such a bridge to be constructed, adding that the project would bring to an end, the risk faced by farmers while transporting their goods to the area.
He assured the minister that the people of Afikpo and Ebonyi State in general would continue to support the present administration, adding that maximum security would be guaranteed for the equipment that would be used for the project.
The House of Assembly Member Representing Afikpo East State Constituency, Hon Ukie Ezeali said the developmental and economic importance of the project to Afikpo people when completed cannot be overemphasized, adding that it would boost businesses in the area and link the city to other towns.
