Residents of Damaturu and other parts of Yobe State have commended the state government under the able leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni for awarding the contract for the construction of a flyover in Damaturu, a project aimed at easing traffic congestion and modernising the state’s capital.

The Yobe State Commissioner of Works, Engr. Umar Wakil Duddaye has on 20th February, signed contractor for the award of the Flyover Bridge and under pass at the Damturu Main roundabout with a completion period of 12 calendar months.

The announcement of the signing of the flyover project has been met with widespread praise, with many residents describing it as a significant step toward urban development.

Abdullahi Muhammad, a civil servant and resident of Damaturu, expressed his excitement about the project, noting that it would not only decongest the roads but also boost the local economy.

“This flyover is long overdue. As a capital city, Damaturu is gradually getting more and more populated and as such, traffic is increasing especially during rush hours and has been getting worse by the day.

“With this project, I believe movement will be smoother, and businesses will thrive better,” Mustapha said.

Another resident, Mommodu Bukar, highlighted the importance of the project in terms of safety and infrastructure improvement.

“You see, infrastructure is always a key for development and I have to tell you that many accidents have happened due to congestion at major intersections. This flyover will certainly help reduce such incidents and make transportation safer,” he stated.

Hauwa Ali Mallum, also from Damaturu, lauded the government’s commitment to infrastructural development, emphasizing how the project would enhance the beauty of the city.

“Apart from the economic and transport benefits, this flyover will change the face of Damaturu and make it look more modern. I appreciate the government’s efforts,” she said.

Meanwhile, residents from other parts of Yobe State have also shared their thoughts on the development. Babale Dreban Kowa, a resident of Potiskum, expressed hope that similar projects would be extended to other towns.

“This is a great move by the government. I hope Potiskum will also benefit from such modernization efforts in the future,” he said.

Habu Mohammed, from Gashu’a, echoed similar sentiments, stating that infrastructural projects like the Damaturu flyover would attract investors to Yobe State. “When investors see that the state is developing, they will be more willing to bring their businesses here. This project is a step in the right direction,” he noted.

The state government has assured residents that the project will be completed within the stipulated timeframe and will meet international construction standards.

Governor Mai Mala Buni has reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming Yobe’s infrastructure and making the state more accessible and business-friendly.

As construction is set to begin, residents remain optimistic about the benefits the flyover will bring, viewing it as a symbol of progress and modernization in Yobe State.
