9 Die, 3 Injured In Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash

At least nine people have been confirmed dead, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident which occurred Monday morning along the Lagos – Ibadan expressway.

The accident, which occurred around 5: 30.a.m. at Ayetoro village of the expressway in the Obafemi – Owode local government area of Ogun State involved a Toyota Hiace commercial passengers’ bus with registration number UYY 165 ZY Toyota and an articulated truck marked DKA 244 XC.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) for the Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe, who confirmed the accident, attributed the cause of the crash to “excessive speed and fatigue”.

Okpe explained that the driver of the Toyota Hiace bus was engrossed in excessive speed, which made him to lose control of the vehicle and consequently rammed into a stationary truck.

The FRSC’s spokesperson further disclosed that the injured victim were evacuated to a private hospital in Mowe for treatment, while corpses of those that died were also deposited at the morgue of another private hospital in Sagamu.
