The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Barrister Onomen Briggs, on Monday, expressed concerns over incessant vandalism and frequent attack on properties of public schools, charging community leaders, parents, guardians, and all well-meaning citizens to take ownership of school facilities within domains.

Briggs noted that the security and vigilance of the public properties are collective responsibilities, and urged communities to remain alert and report any suspicious activities around school premises to the appropriate authorities.

“These reprehensible acts not only jeopardise the future of our children but also undermine the collective efforts of the government and stakeholders in providing quality education for all.

“Schools are critical institutions for learning and development, and any attack on them is an attack on the future of our state. We will not tolerate these acts of destruction, and we assure the public that the perpetrators of these crimes will be identified and brought to justice,” she said.

Briggs added that the Edo State Government, through relevant security agencies, was intensifying efforts to track down those responsible for the attacks to ensure that they face the full wrath of the law.

She further implored traditional rulers, local government chairpersons, and youth groups to collaborate with security agencies to safeguard educational facilities from further attacks.

“The government remains committed to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for all students in Edo State,” Briggs assured.
