The Arewa Think Tank Forum has said Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has emerged as a central figure in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, pivotal in advancing the government’s security objectives.
In a statement on Friday, the group’s convener, Alhaji Abdul Malik, praised Matawalle’s contributions to the “Renewed Hope” agenda, highlighting his efforts to enhance military operations, improve intelligence gathering, and foster collaboration among security agencies.
Since assuming office, Matawalle has championed policies to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework, focusing on proactive measures to combat terrorism, banditry, and other security threats.
One of his key achievements has been advocating for improved welfare and capacity-building programs for military personnel.
He has pushed for better equipment, training, and operational strategies, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces in tackling insecurity.
He argues that Matawalle’s experience as a former governor of Zamfara State—a region plagued by security challenges—positions him well to navigate Nigeria’s complex security landscape.
According to him, during his tenure, he employed both dialogue-driven and military-backed strategies to combat banditry, an approach that aligns with Tinubu’s broader security strategy.
President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda prioritises national security as a foundation for economic growth and stability. With Matawalle at the forefront, the administration aims to implement policies that bolster military capabilities and address the root causes of insecurity, including poverty and unemployment.
