Text: 2 Chronicles 11:4
– SOLOMON versus JEROBOAM: I Kings 11:31,40 Solomon the wise man missed out on the plan and purpose of God. Lack of this consideration makes our lives to be a mixture of confusion, and a series of lost battles. Solomon wanted to kill Jeroboam, not knowing that it was the plan of God for the kingdom to be divided into two, two tribes to Solomon and ten tribes to Jeroboam, his servant.
– Every step we take in life, if we fail to take note of this important fact, we will waste precious time fighting unnecessary battles, while abandoning God’s project and programme for our lives.
This year, whatever is happening, no matter how pleasurable or challenging, painful, cruel to us, we must know that THIS THING IS FROM GOD. And everything that happens to us will result into blessings.
- FIGHT NOT, THIS THING IS FROM ME (2 Chronicles 11:1-4; Genesis 45:5,7-8; Isaiah 28:29; 46:10)
As we look at the lives of those who have gone before us, we see that they realised that the hands of strangers might be in their situation, it is God using them, permitting and allowing them to do what they did. That was why they were quiet, silent and did not fight.
Genesis 45:5,7-8. Joseph knew that all that happened to him came from God for a purpose. He knew that all those things were God’s plans for him, otherwise, his brothers would not have succeeded in selling him to a strange land. He told them God sent him, not his brothers, to preserve lives. At the end, Joseph became a father to Pharaoh, and a ruler throughout the land, just because God ordained it. They were fulfilling the plans of God unknowingly.
Isaiah 28:29 “This also cometh forth from the LORD of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.” Remove your hands, your mouth from issues happening and coming from the Lord of hosts.
ch 46:10 “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.” God orchestrates all that happens to us so that we can reach the appointed end. He knows the end from the beginning. Anything that happens, positive or negative, in our homes, churches or places of work, God has a reason for them. Wherever they are, all and those that will benefit and make our lives better will come to us this year in Jesus name, no matter how far away they are to us now. God will surprise us beyond our expectations. This year will be far better than previous years. Nothing will stand in the way of his will for us. Miraculous scholarship for students where they did not except, miraculous provision coming our way, lack of money will not hinder the plans of God for us, after all, He has all the money in the world.
Deuteronomy 1:42. It was not only in the case of Rehoboam, for ages, God has been in the business of carving out, making out ways for His will to be fulfilled. God is saying, I have plans for you even though you are not obeying me now. Plans and progress are suspended until you come back to me. To the backsliders, the Lord is calling you back home.
ch 2:4-5. Esau did not know that there was a portion which God has ordained for him, just as for Jacob. Had he known, he would not have fought. Even in the end, God still protected Esau’s heritage. He would not give his land to Jacob. He warned them not to take the land from them but to pass through in peace.
Deuteronomy 2:4-5 “And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore: Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.” Those things and situations we weep about, after they have accomplished Gods purpose, they will vanish away.
Acts 5:39. Here Gamaliel told the council of the Sahendrin of the Jews to leave the Apostles alone because if what they were doing was of God, it would stand, no matter what they did or did not do. Anyone who fights agains us is fighting against God.
ch 23:9. This was the assurance of God to Apostle Paul: Be of good cheer.
The promise of the Lord is for us, and we will surely succeed in His purpose, and all He has appointed in Jesus name.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Rainfall, sunshine, in the midst of friends and foes, when enemies are hovering around and friends are helping out, when it appears there is nothing or there is surplus, all things will work together for our good.
- FEAR NOT, THY TREASURE IS STILL MUCH (2 Chronicles 11:3-4)
What did Jeroboam have left? The tribes of Judah and Benjamin, bearing the name, Judah. God is saying, his treasure is still much. Why did we say that?
Psalm 87:2 “The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.” Jerusalem was the capital of Judah. The Lord loves the gate of Jerusalem more than all the tribes of Israel. When Jeroboam had taken all that was appointed to him, what was left was still enough for Rehoboam. When you put everything belonging to the other side together in value, what you still have is enough. Judah and Benjamin were much more in value than the other ten tribes put together.
vs 3 “Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.” Jerusalem is the city of God. What was left was enough to fulfill the prophecies and purpose of God given to Abraham, not only for Israel but for the rest of the world. Through this lineage will the Saviour of the world come.
Psalm 132:13-18 “For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.” Even God will abide with the inhabitants of Judah, not in Samaria, not in Damascus, not in Issachar. We will have rest in the will of God. Salvation for the whole world came through our Lord and Saviour Jesus who was born of the tribe of Judah.
Joel 2:21-28. Jeroboam might have taken the larger portion of the land, but where Rehoboam was taking was much more valuable because the Lord will dwell there forever. We should remember, that according to the word of the Lord, that the Holy Ghost was first poured out on believers in Jerusalem before it went to Cornelius’ house and the rest of the world. Also, according to the words of the Most High God, upon Mount Zion shall be deliverance, and holiness and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS, NAME THEM ONE BY ONE
Matthew 2:6 “And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.” The ruler of Gods people will come from Bethlehem of Judah.
ch 13:44. There is a lot of treasures hidden in the two tribes given to Rehoboam far beyond what the eyes can see. He was about to go and fight to get other tribes to himself, but God disallowed him. Know that you will get everything in Jesus.
Colossians 2:3. When we have Jesus, we have everything: salvation, sanctification, healing, deliverance, baptism in the Holy Ghost, all provisions and blessings, answers to prayers. All the hidden treasures of knowledge of wisdom are in Christ.
vs 9-10. We are complete in Him.
2 Peter 1:3-4. All things are given to us through Christ. We have exceeding, great and precious promises and we have escaped all the corruption in the world.
Romans 8:32 “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” God who did not spare His son will with Him give us all things.
Revelation 21:1-7. Even the holy city in heaven is named after Jerusalem, the territory of Jeroboam! What a great privilege! Fear not, your treasures are still much. This year, the blessings of God will multiply in our lives.
- FOLLOW ON, TRIUMPH BELONGS TO THE MEEK (2 Chronicles 11:4,16-17)
Keep on believing, hoping and trusting God. Thousands of the people of Judah following Rehoboam planned to go and fight for the acquired lands, but God forbade them, telling them that the breakaway of the ten tribes was from Him. Meekly, they dropped their weapons and decided to not fight in obedience to the Lord. The Lord honoured and blessed their meekness.
vs 16-17. The people went back and built the kingdom of Judah, giving all support to Rehoboam, the son of King Solomon.
Hosea 6:3 “Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.” This year, the blessings of God as showers of rains will fall on us. You will inherit all things, all needs in your life will be met. God wants us to be meek because through this, His blessings will flow ceaselessly into our lives, family, place of work, business. This year is a blessed and prosperous one.
Matthew 5:5. If you believe God’s word, you will be meek and not push down anyone to have your way. Our Lord and Saviour is meek, we must be meek. He is lowly, we must be too. He wants us to have peace and rest. All we need to do is to follow Him.
ch 11:28-30. In your heart, body, family, emotionally, and spiritually, you will have rest. The Lord is saying, I don’t fight, don’t fight. I am meek, be meek. All yokes of enemies is taken off your shoulders, all chaos and calamity are not your portion in Jesus name.
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” One of the proof of the presence of the Spirit of God in us is meekness.
Colossians 3:12 “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering.”
2 Timothy 2:21-22. We must purge ourselves from anything that brings fear, quarrel or strife. We must live in peace with everyone.
vs 24-25. Preachers do not fight members; parents do not fight with the children, leaders don’t fight members, even in our places of work and businesses, we must follow peace with all men.
Zephaniah 2:3 “Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’s anger.” Meekness helps us to seek God. Don’t say you are meek already, seek to be meek, soft, gentle, and lowly more. The rod of the wrath of the Lord will not be upon you, His goodness upon you this year.
Psalm 147:6 “The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.” The Lord lifts up the meek.
ch 25:9-10. The Lord will guide and teach the meek in His way.
ch 22:26-28. The meek shall eat and be satisfied, the praise of God will continually be in his mouth. Hunger, famine, lack will not visit your family, you will have enough to take care of your family, you will not lack any good thing.
ch 37:11,1-11 “Psalm 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” Fret not, no anxiety, no fear, no palpitations of the heart, nothing will jolt you, God is on your side. There is security of God upon you. He will grant your heart’s desires. No anger in your voice, face or in your body language. The wicked shall soon be cut down and wither like the grass.
vs 18-19. In times of famine, we shall be satisfied.
vs 23. Your steps will be guided by the Lord all through this year.
vs 25. You will not be forsaken, you will not beg for food.
Your end Wil be peace, you will have security and progress.
vs 29-31, 34, 37
vs 40. The Lord will deliver you from the wicked
Prayer:
– May we have grace to know, discern and surrender to the will of God in every aspect of our lives
– May God’s grace, wisdom and anointing continually dwell with our father in the Lord.
– May all the blessings these covenant Sundays be permanent in our lives, Amen and Amen.
