In 2024, Nigeria experienced a significant increase in tanker explosion fatalities.

The year recorded the highest death toll with 266 fatalities, making it the deadliest year on record for tanker accidents in Nigeria surpassing previous records.

One of the most devastating incidents occurred on October 15, 2024, in Majiya, Jigawa State, where a fuel tanker explosion killed 209 people and injured 124 others. Another notable incident in July 2024 in Benue State resulted in at least 45 deaths and over 100 injuries. These incidents highlight the alarming rise in tanker-related accidents and fatalities in Nigeria.
