According to the deputy governor, the government has prioritised agriculture since its inception on May 29, 2023, by providing essential farming tools, fertiliser, mechanised equipment, and improved seedlings to enhance productivity.

N36 billion was spent on procuring 20,000 metric tons of fertiliser, 400 tractors, 10 combine harvesters, and mechanised tools to support farmers.

To strengthen agricultural storage and processing, the government allocated N790 million to upgrade zonal produce stores and revive the Songhai Farm Centre, ensuring year-round farming and increased economic opportunities.

The government has also made significant investments in livestock development, injecting N5.7 billion into the Goat Rearing Initiative Programme, which has distributed 32,490 goats to farmers across 361 wards. An additional N796 million was allocated for livestock vaccination, pasture development, and artificial insemination programs.

Irrigation and dry-season farming have received substantial attention, with over N11.5 billion spent on procuring powered tillers, solar-powered pumps, fertiliser, and dredging equipment to enhance irrigation infrastructure across the state.

Water resources have also been a major focus, with the government spending N21 billion to improve access to clean and safe water for domestic and agricultural use.

The Katsina State Water Board invested N14.4 billion in water projects across key urban centres, while the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) utilised N2.3 billion to provide boreholes and sanitation facilities in rural areas.

Meanwhile, the Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (STOWASSA) allocated N10.2 billion for water supply projects expected to benefit over 182,000 people.

Additionally, N5.8 billion was dedicated to dam construction and rehabilitation, water treatment, and infrastructure improvements.
Speaking on the administration’s efforts, the deputy governor, Malam Faruk Lawal, emphasised that these investments reflect the government’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development.

He reaffirmed that the focus on agriculture and water resources is essential to ensuring food security, job creation, and overall economic prosperity for the people of Katsina State.

The administration remains committed to expanding agricultural output, strengthening water infrastructure, and fostering economic resilience to improve residents’ standard of living.
