A civil society group, the United Advocates for Good Governance and Leadership, has called on Nigerians to remain calm amid the ongoing disagreement between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In a statement yesterday, the national secretary under the office of the national coordinator, Adv. Israel T. Ebiama, urged Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to express her grievances in a manner that upholds the dignity of her office and the expectations of the citizens she represents.

“While we acknowledge Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan‘s right to voice her concerns, we advise that such expressions should be done with responsibility and respect for the Senate as an institution,“ the statement read.

“Making allegations against the Senate President without substantial evidence could damage not only her credibility but also the integrity of the legislative body.”

The group also reaffirmed its confidence in Senate President Akpabio‘s leadership, citing his record of significant development initiatives. It suggested that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions might be influenced by her recent removal as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring.

„We understand that her loss of position may have caused frustration, but this should not lead to actions that undermine the integrity of the National Assembly,“ the statement added.

The advocacy group called on Nigerians to prioritise national unity and democratic values. „Let us support our institutions and encourage constructive dialogue rather than allowing personal interests to take precedence,“ it urged.
