An aspirant jostling to become the candidate in a rescheduled primary election for a House of Representative seat of Ikom/Boki federal constituency of Cross River State under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled to hold this Wednesday, October 5, 2022, Mr. Pius Abang, has expressed confidence of coasting to victory provided the contest is free and fair.

Abang spoke while answering questions in a telephone interview with LEADERSHIP in Calabar on Tuesday.

He pledged to give the people quality representation if he clinches the House of Representatives ticket and proceed to win in the general election which comes up in 2023, to represent the federal constituency at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

While expressing displeasure over derogatory comment credited to a media team purported to be working for his opponent, who is also participating in the re-run primary election, Abang stated that election would come and go, adding that as a people they are bound to remain in the party.

The aspirant charged his opponent’s media team to desist forthwith from engaging in campaign of calumny so that they wont drag the good image of thier fellow PDP member into mud.

He noted that contest is hardly won through mischief nor making derogatory comments and campaign of calumny.

“I feel so sad when I see politicians from same fold stooping low to cast aspersion on thier fellow party man simply because they are desperate to become the flagbearer for the PDP as far as Ikom/Boki federal constituency ticket is concerned.

“Re-run primary will come and go, but we all would remain in the party to steer the ship of PDP to higher and enviable pedestal.

“Would it not had been wise for each an every one of us to maintain decorum, conduct ourselves in a more matured and civilised manner in which our great party had been known for?

“I charge every upcoming politician in the party to always play the game by the rules rather than dissipating the good energy that would had been channelled into courting delegates to vote thier aspirant.

“I feel so sad that such useful energy is being used in the campaign of calumny.

“The re-run campaign which came to an end this Tuesday evening ought to have been issue-based as done in most civilized climes. Here we are using the energy to run down fellow party men,” Abang lamented.

He assured the constituents of quality and effective representation should be clinched the PDP ticket, and become winner after the general elections in 2023.
