Federal government has been charged to find immediate solution to the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and ensure students returned to the classes before the elections to avoid crisis.

Immediate past Federal Public Complaint Commissioner for Imo State, Chief Willie Amadi made the call in Owerri, while speaking on the 62nd independence anniversary.

According to him, the lingering strike is a ticking time bomb which if not carefully handled could snowball into bigger issues.

Amadi, a senior lawyer, called on the federal government to use the allowances of political appointees to resolve the financial needs of the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and restore universities to their pride of place. He maintained that the continued stay of undergraduates and other academic students portends great danger for the educational system of Nigeria.

He said, “Government must resolve this issue, even if it means using the allowances of all political appointees to settle ASUU to restore trust in the educational system, they should do it immediately because it portends great danger.
