The federal government yesterday inaugurated the newly appointed governing board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
The board include Sola Olofin as chairman with members from the Federal Ministry of Labour Employment, the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the NSITF managing-director, Oluwaseun Faleye.
During the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, the minister of labour and employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, charged the board members with the responsibility of repositioning the NSITF to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for economic transformation.
The minister also tasked them on transparency, accountability and ethical leadership as key priorities.
He highlighted the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving the fund’s mandate and called on the board members to foster a culture of open communication and mutual respect.
“The NSITF plays a vital role in ensuring the welfare and protection of Nigerian workers by providing financial support during times of need, as outlined in the Employees’ Compensation Act.
I urge you all to uphold transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making in your duties,” the minister stated.
In his inaugural speech, the newly appointed NSITF chairman, Sola Olofin, pledged to lead with integrity and reposition the fund as a globally recognised social security institution.
He said, “The NSITF is not just a government agency; it is a beacon of social security and protection for Nigerian workers.
Our goal is to ensure that every employee receives the necessary compensation and support in times of work-related injuries, disabilities, diseases, or fatalities”.
