Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State has suspended a facilitator, Mr Okoroafor Ifeanyichukwu, from duties after he was seen in a viral video assaulting a male student, Chidera.
The video surfaced on Thursday night and showed Okoroafor slapping Chidera and kicking him on the leg which made the student to lose balance and fall on the concrete walkway.
The suspension notice was contained in a letter dated March 14, 2025. It read, “You are hereby suspended from duty as a facilitator in the Technical and Entrepreneurship Development Centre pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident that occurred yesterday, March 13, 2025 at the site of your entrepreneurship training.”
The letter was signed by the director of TEDC, Engr Dr Okoye P.C, and copied to the rector, dean of student affairs and the students’ union government.
Meanwhile Okoroafor has apologised to the student.
“I am writing to offer my sincere apologies for my behaviour towards you. I am deeply sorry for the way I treated you, and I realise that my actions were unacceptable and hurtful.
“As your teacher, I should have provided a safe and supportive learning environment, but instead, I bullied and intimidated you. My behaviour was not only unprofessional, but it also caused you harm and distress.
“I want you to know that I take full responsibility for my actions, and I am truly sorry for the pain and suffering I caused you. I understand that my apology cannot erase the past, but I hope it can be a step towards healing and moving forward.
“Please know that I am committed to changing my behaviour and ensuring that all my students feel safe, respected and supported in the classroom. I will do everything in my power to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future,” he said,
Meanwhile, netizens have taken to the social media to share the suspension letter and commend the institution for their prompt action while others queried the decision saying there had not been fair hearing.
Some students who commented on the post alleged that the facilitator had collected money for the weeding of the grass only to turn around and direct the students to do the weeding.
