The two universities whose lands were encroached upon are the University of Cross River (UNICROSS) and University of Education and Entrepreneurship (former College of Education Akamkpa) by land grabbers claiming to be members of landlords’ communities.

The government promised to deal decisively with any individual or group who encroaches into lands owned by government schools across the state warning of grievous consequences that await offenders.

Special adviser to Governor Bassey Otu on Assets Management Recovery, Barr Gilbert Agbor, who gave the warning in Calabar said, “The government has directed all illegal occupants to vacate these lands without delay. Swift and decisive action will be taken against defaulters regardless of their influence or status.”

Agbor called on members of the public to provide useful information that could aid the recovery of state-owned assets, assuring informants of confidentiality and appropriate rewards for credible intelligence.

The government further enjoined members of the public to report illegal occupation of government-owned property to the Department of Asset Management and Recovery, Governor’s Office, Calabar.
