A frontline Labour Party (LP) aspirant in the coming Anambra senatorial district by-election, Barrister Donald Amamgbo has said that if elected, he would prioritise increased funding for infrastructural development and maintenance and improved access to quality education and healthcare services in the senatorial zone.

He also stated that he would regularly consult his constituents to promote transparency and accountability and deepen the principles of democracy in Nigeria.

A legal practitioner and oil and gas executive, Amamgbo told LEADERSHIP that he has a passion for grassroots development. He stated that in his hometown of Ihiala, in Ihiala local government, he had constructed over 10 kilometres of roads, awarded scholarships to several underprivileged children, and implemented many youth empowerment programmes.

He stated that over the years, he had served in various capacities of human endeavour, where he gained a deep understanding of legal and business intricacies and handled high-profile commercial and civil litigations with a commitment to justice.

Amamgbo spoke about his legislative agenda thus: “My legislative agenda is all about listening to the concerns of constituents and representing their interests in the National Assembly while collaborating with stakeholders to drive development and growth in Anambra South, ensure transparency, accountability, and promote the principles of democracy in Nigeria.

“My senatorial bid is built on a promise to deliver effective representation and champion the interests of Anambra South senatorial district. My vision is centred on key legislative priorities for economic empowerment, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, security and peace in Anambra South and the entire state.

“My approach to leadership is anchored in practical solutions and a people-first mentality. I will prioritise development, accountability, and compassion, offering a fresh perspective on service delivery. With my extensive experience in law, business, and humanitarian work, I am a force for positive change,” he stressed.

On his passion for grassroots development, the LP senatorial aspirant said, “I have also drilled boreholes to provide clean water in remote areas and extended welfare support to widows and the elderly. Serving my community is not just an obligation; it’s my passion. I believe that when we uplift others, we create a better future for everyone.”

The Anambra South Senatorial district seat became vacant about nine months ago following the demise of the occupant, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, on 27 July last year. Though the Senate consequently declared the seat vacant, LEADERSHIP findings showed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to fix a date for the conduct of the by-election.
