The current National Development Plan 2021-2025 has been described by the national chairman of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Engr Yabagi Yusuf Sani, as a re-hatch of previous development plans, saying that it is “a mere cut and paste syndrome.”
Speaking at the launching of the book, “Get Involved: Responsibility
In State Building,” by Ekpa Stanley Ekpa, at the Army Resource Centre
Abuja, organized by the Centre of Leadership And Military Operations of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), he said Nigeria is in this present predicament after series of national plans show that previous plans ended on the papers they were written on.
He said to fix the future of Nigeria, leadership selections should be credible not foisted, while Nigeria should conduct credible and acceptable elections. He added that the people should be the ultimate source of political legitimacy, saying, “this is called popular sovereignty not through inducements with influence, connections, and materials.”
He said the future of a country is shaped by the choices it makes and that Nigeria should take advantage of global trends and implement them. “For instance, Nigeria should increase the degree of technology and digitization penetration among her demographics. Nigeria should fix its future through her education system and on structures that has capacity to provide qualified labour that can drive innovation, and productivity growth.
“Along with Heraclitus, the Greek philosopher, since everything is in flux, (panta rhei), Nigeria should eagerly and hastily embrace the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” he said.
