The District Head of Ganjuwa, Alhaji Mohammad Baba, has called on the federal government to urgently renovate the historic Madakin Bauchi Palace a national monument dating back to 1860.

LEADERSHIP reports that it was built by the legendary Zaria architect, Babban Gwani, the palace stands as a remarkable piece of indigenous Hausa architecture, constructed without rods or thatch.

However, despite its rich historical significance, the structure has suffered years of neglect, raising concerns about its preservation.

Gazetted as a national monument, the Madakin Bauchi Palace remains a crucial part of the region’s cultural identity. Historians and traditional leaders have also echoed the district head’s call, stressing that its renovation would boost tourism and preserve history for future generations.

“The palace is a symbol of our heritage and must be restored to its former glory,” Mohammad Baba said in an interaction with our correspondent in his palace.

He emphasised the need for government intervention to protect the legacy of northern Nigeria’s architectural brilliance.
