A group pressure group in the country known as Youth O’clock Advancement Association of Nigeria, has said it is on a mission to mobilise 10 million Nigerian youths to promote peace and unity across the country.
The group’s national coordinator, Seth Francis, stated this during a peace dialogue hosted by the organisation in Gombe State for youth, students, politicians, traditional leaders, and religious leaders at the Education Resource Centre, Gombe.
“The event aimed to foster understanding among diverse religious and tribal groups, promoting peaceful coexistence and social cohesion,” he said.
He added that the organisation’s objective is to empower young people, instil leadership skills in them, and encourage active participation in decision-making processes.
Gombe State coordinator for Youth O’clock, Abdulaziz Sani Labaran, highlighted the need to address youth-related violence in the state, particularly thuggery.
He said to tackle this issue, the organisation plans to collaborate with the state police command to provide rehabilitation programmes, skills training, and startup grants for the notorious ‘Kalare thugs’ in the state.
“In January, 200 youth have already benefited from our training in fire fighting and first aid skills,” he stated.
Religious leaders, including state CAN chairman Reverend Joseph Shinga and JNI, Saleh Danburam, have endorsed the peace dialogue, advocating for regular events to strengthen social bonds and promote peace.
