Senate Confirms 4 Nominees As Members Of PSC

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of four nominees as members of the Police Service Commission (PSC), following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request.

The confirmation came after the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, chaired by Senator Madori Abdulhamid (Jigawa East), presented a comprehensive report.

LEADERSHIP reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called for the nominees’ appointment confirmation in a letter to the Senate in November 2024.

The letter reads in part: “In accordance with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointments of the under-listed four (4) nominees as Members of the Police Service Commission.

“While I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominees in the usual expeditious manner, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.”

In his remarks, Senator Abdulhamid urged his colleagues to approve the nominees, emphasising that they had undergone thorough screening and were found competent to serve on the Commission.

Also, Senator Simon Lalong (Plateau Central) praised the nominees for their professionalism and integrity, stating that their appointment would positively impact the work of the Police Service Commission and enhance policing in Nigeria.

Other Senators who contributed to the debate echoed similar sentiments, unanimously affirming the nominees’ qualifications and suitability.

In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio resolved the Senate into the Committee of the Whole after noting the absence of any objection from the floor. The Senate subsequently confirmed the nominees.

The newly confirmed members of the Police Service Commission are Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Retired), Abdulfatah Mohammed, DIG Uba Ringim (Retired), and Justice Christine I. Dabup (Retired).
