Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has insisted that Cole Palmer needs more of a challenge at Chelsea.

Scholes believes Palmer is operating in a comfort zone at Chelsea and needs a more demanding environment if he is to fulfill his potential in the game.

Palmer’s form has dipped in recent weeks, and he is currently recovering from a muscle injury.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Palmer will not play for England when they face Albania and Latvia in the World Cup qualifiers later this month.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Overlap, Scholes said:

“I have felt for a while that, for Cole Palmer, it’s almost been too easy for him to play in that Chelsea team.

“He knows he will play every week and be the best player. I think he needs to be challenged more, and I don’t get the impression that they [Chelsea] are desperate to win anything.”

Palmer missed Chelsea’s 1-0 Premier League defeat to Arsenal at the weekend due to injury.

The 22-year-old will hope to be back for their next match against Tottenham Hotspur on April 3.
