The Acting Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has disassociated himself from the statement said to have been issued by the chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum opposing the decision of President Bola Tinubu to suspend the Rivers State governor to make way for a state of emergency.

In a statement signed by his press secretary, Fred Abua Esq., the Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Dr. Peter Odey, noted that he was neither consulted nor was his opinion sought before the issuance of the statement.

“The position of the forum does not reflect the views of the government of Cross River State which fully aligns with the decision of Mr. President, taken in the best interest of national security, peace, and stability.

“Every responsible government must prioritise the protection of lives and property, and where circumstances necessitate decisive action, such measures should be supported for the good of democracy and national unity,” he said.

The governor stated that Cross River State remained committed to upholding constitutional governance, stressing that the state would continue to collaborate with Tinubu’s administration  in ensuring peace and security in the country.
