South Africa successfully defended their All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) team title, while hosts Nigeria finished fourth and 14-year-old Kenyan sensation Kanana Muthomi claimed individual honours at the continental golf championship in Abuja.

South Africa emerged overall champions after three rounds of competition at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, maintaining their dominance in the women’s team event.

Kenya finished runners-up, while Tanzania secured third place, leaving Nigeria outside the podium despite the advantage of playing on home soil.

The South Africans had established a strong position after the first 36 holes with a combined score of 309, seven shots ahead of Kenya on 316. Tanzania were third on 325, while Nigeria occupied fourth position with 327.

In the final standings, Botswana finished fifth, followed by Uganda, Zambia, Tunisia, Zimbabwe and Ghana.

The championship employed a three-player format in which the best two scores from each team counted towards the aggregate for each round.

While South Africa celebrated the team crown, Kenya had another reason to rejoice as teenage golfer Muthomi produced an impressive performance to win the individual title.

The 14-year-old carded a final-round 75 to finish with a 54-hole gross aggregate of 229, following opening rounds of 77 and 77.

She finished six shots ahead of South Africa’s Isabella Ferreira, who settled for second place with 235.

Muthomi had taken the individual lead after the second round and maintained her advantage in the final round to secure the continental crown.

Her triumph highlighted Kenya’s impressive campaign, with the country finishing second in the team competition and claiming the individual title.

For Nigeria, the fourth-place finish was a disappointment after the hosts had hoped to challenge for a podium position.

The championship brought together female golfers from across Africa, providing a platform for competition and the development of women’s golf on the continent.
