Nasarawa State governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has dismissed claims by some politicians in the State that he was supporting them to replace him in the 2027 general election.
Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba, during an interactive session with journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Lafia on Wednesday, the governor said he has no anointed candidate, describing the speculations as false and unfounded.
He said the choice of who becomes the next governor of the state lies with the people while urging the general public to discountenance contrary claims.
“We want to make it categorically clear that Governor Abdullahi Sule has no anointed candidate to succeed him in 2027. Any appointee supporting such a claim is a sign of insubordination. Governor Sule will not condone such act henceforth.
“The public should ignore politicians claiming to be government’s candidates for the seat of governorship for 2027. At the appropriate time, the people of Nasarawa will decide who they choose to be governor in 2027,” he stated.
He urged the governor’s appointees who have political ambition to desist from heating up the polity and wait for the right time to sell their ambitions to the electorate, warning that any distractive tendency would no longer be tolerated.
He said the Governor Sule administration was focused on providing the dividends of democracy to the people within the remaining last two years it has to wind up.
He said the ongoing infrastructural development across the state, including the signature projects such as the Lafia Flyover and Underpass and that of Akwanga, as well as the proposed Keffi Flyover, were part of the dividends of democracy.
He urged the public to support the administration to continue to uplift their standard of living within the remaining timeline.
