Sokoto State government said it would hold supervising engineers responsible for any shoddy job that was executed during the ongoing renovation of some schools across the state.

Deputy Governor Idris Mohammed Gobir stated this after inspecting ongoing renovation work at Nagarta College and Government Girls College, Sokoto.

Alhaji Idris Gobir, therefore, ordered engineers to direct the stoppage of any substandard work executed by any contractor from now on.

He said that professionals and government representatives were obliged to ensure taxpayers’ money was not wasted.

He said Ahmed Aliyu’s administration is poised to execute long-term projects that will benefit the entire state.

Alhaji Idris Gobir hoped that the engineers would be aware of their responsibilities, as the government has given them free hands to use their professional judgement in supervising the projects.

In his comment, the state commissioner for science and technology, Professor Attahiru Ahmed Sifawa, said the visit allowed them to see areas that require improvement to ensure quality jobs.

The commissioner said the ministry would ensure that all projects being executed in schools under the ministry are executed according to specifications.

Regarding the recent government directives requiring all non-teaching staff to vacate schools’ quarters, the commissioner assured that the ministry would ensure total compliance with the order.

He welcomed the idea, pointing out that it would enable teachers to accommodate themselves within the schools they serve.

Professor Attahiru Sifawa added that it would also enhance the adequate supervision of students’ conduct in their dormitories.
