In a remarkable show of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and commitment to inclusion, New Horizons Nigeria has offered a lifetime employment opportunity to Olayinka Akinbiyi, a visually impaired National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.

This initiative reflects the organization’s dedication to ensuring that physically challenged individuals are given equal opportunities in the workplace.

Olayinka, who lost her sight at the age of two due to measles and faced the additional hardship of losing her mother at birth, has defied the odds to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Benin.

Her resilience caught the attention of New Horizons’ managing director, Mr. Tim Akano, during his visit to the NYSC state coordinator. Moved by her determination, he pledged to support her not just with ICT training but with a lifelong career.

New Horizons, a leading ICT training institute, has been at the forefront of equipping Nigerian youths with essential digital skills, offering over 20,000 scholarships annually. As part of its inclusive approach, the organization is providing Olayinka with specialized ICT training tailored for visually impaired individuals. Additionally, she will be placed in a school for visually impaired students in Oshodi, where she will, in turn, train others using her newly acquired skills.

Beyond training, New Horizons is ensuring Olayinka’s financial stability by committing to pay her salary for life, a move that sets a new standard for workplace inclusion in Nigeria. The company is also providing resources to the school, reinforcing its mission to empower physically challenged individuals through education and technology.

This initiative aligns with the broader efforts of the newly launched Tim Akano Foundation, which has spearheaded several community development projects, including the renovation of schools and the NYSC+ (PLUS) mentorship program. The foundation’s goal is to prepare Nigerian youth for leadership and professional success, bridging the gap between education and employment.

With this bold step, New Horizons Nigeria is demonstrating that true inclusion goes beyond words—it requires action, investment, and a commitment to long-term change. Olayinka Akinbiyi’s story is no longer just about overcoming challenges; it is now a beacon of hope for many others who dream of a society where ability, not disability, defines one’s future.
