In a statement issued by her media team on Tuesday, the Senator dismissed speculations that she had cancelled her scheduled visit, urging her supporters to disregard such claims.

“We are pleased to confirm that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sallah visit to Kogi Central Senatorial District will proceed as planned. Despite rumours circulating online, there has been no official announcement from our office regarding the cancellation of this visit,” the statement read.

Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasised her commitment to her constituents, stating that she has a statutory duty to engage with the people she represents.

“As the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains committed to engaging with her community and fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation. Her dedication to the people of Kogi Central is unwavering, and she looks forward to celebrating Eid-el-Fitr with her constituents,” the statement continued.

The embattled Senator, currently facing a recall from the Senate, assured that all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure a smooth and successful visit.

“We would like to assure the public that all necessary arrangements are in place to ensure a successful and joyous event. We invite all members of the community to join us in marking this special occasion,” her team added.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s announcement came just hours after the Kogi State government imposed a ban on rallies and public gatherings across the state, citing security concerns.

In a statement on Monday, the State’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said the move was necessary to prevent potential security breaches that could destabilise the state.

Fanwo claimed that intelligence reports suggested that some individuals were planning to stage violent protests under the guise of political and religious activities in Kogi Central.

Additionally, the State government halted fishing and other activities in certain areas, citing recent violent incidents that resulted in the death of two people in Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette localities of the State.
