Mass Defection Looms In Enugu Labour Party

Indications have emerged that there might be mass defection of key members of the Labour Party in Enugu State to other parties.

Our exclusive investigation revealed serious internal wrangling in the party, a development many members are capitalising on to defect.

Also, it was gathered that supporters of the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in 2023, Chijioke Edeoga, might soon defect to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Edeoga returned to the Peoples Democratic Party last Monday at the secretariat of the party in GRA, Enugu.

Addressing the PDP faithful at the party’s secretariat, Edeoga thanked Governor Mbah and his Eha-Amufu Ward III, Isi-Uzo LGA, and state party leadership for making his return possible and smooth.

He rededicated himself to the PDP, saying it was time for all to join hands with Governor Mbah in the great works he is doing in Enugu State.

“I want to say that I’m happy to be here. I want to start by thanking in a very special way, the governor of Enugu State.

I appreciate that what has happened today cannot begun to be conceived without his political involvement.”

Six members of the Enugu State House of Assembly who were elected on the Labour Party platform earlier defected to the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The defected lawmakers include Ejike Eze (Igbo-Eze North 1), Johnson Ugwu (Enugu North), Princess Ugwu (Enugu South Rural), Pius Ezeugwu (Nsukka West), Amuka Williams (Igbo-Etiti East) and Osita Eze (Oji River).

Recall that the Enugu State House of Assembly spokesman, Harrison Ogara, who was elected on the Labour Party platform, had, while reacting to the six LP members’ defection, said they have freedom of movement.
