Teach Your Child To Respect The Nanny

Nannies do more than just care for children—they become trusted companions, teachers, and sometimes, like family. They wipe little tears, manage daily chaos, and offer unwavering patience. So when a child repeatedly hits, bites, or disrespects the nanny, it’s not “just a phase” to be ignored—it’s a behaviour that deserves serious attention.

Respect Starts At Home

Children learn how to treat others by watching their parents. If a nanny is being hit or mistreated and the behavior is brushed aside, a message is unintentionally sent: it’s okay to disrespect the people who care for you. But we know that’s not the lesson any loving parent wants their child to carry into the world.

It’s Not About Punishment—It’s About Guidance

Teaching your child respect doesn’t mean scolding or shaming—it means guiding with patience, consistency, and love. Sit with your child and talk to them, even at a young age, about kindness, empathy, and boundaries. Help them understand that hitting hurts, and that every person, including the nanny, deserves to feel safe and respected.

Back Your Nanny Up

Your nanny should never feel powerless or unsupported. When you stand behind your caregiver—firmly but lovingly—you show your child that rules are consistent, and kindness is expected in all relationships. This support not only protects your nanny’s dignity but also strengthens their bond with your child.

Model The Behavior You Want To See

How do you speak to your nanny in front of your child? Do you show appreciation, patience, and warmth? Children mimic what they see. When they witness you treating others with respect, they’re far more likely to mirror that same behavior.

Nurture The Relationship

A child who feels heard, safe, and connected is less likely to lash out. Foster a secure environment where your child knows they are loved and understood—but also that there are clear boundaries for behavior.
In the end, your nanny is not just an employee—they are a key player in your child’s early world. Protect that relationship. Cherish it. And teach your little one that love, in all its forms, begins with respect.
Because a child who learns to be kind today becomes the adult who makes the world a gentler place tomorrow.
