A group of youths operating under the aegis of Youths of Ipong Ward, Obudu local government area in Cross River State, has passed a vote of confidence in the provost of Federal College of Education (FCE) Obudu, Dr. Richard Otubaku, for his outstanding performance and effort in turning around the fortunes of the institution.
President, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Ipong Ward , Obudu local government, Cross River State Comrade Ugwakong Emmanuel, stated this in a counter-petition against Otubaku ‘s petitioners yesterday in Calabar.
The group described the petition by a faction of chiefs and youths from Urban Ward 1, in Obudu local government area, against the provost of FCE Obudu as baseless and politically motivated because the petition against Otubaku was filed without the consent of the other nine wards out of the ten wards in the local government area.
The youth president stated that, according to their assessment, the provost has done so well since coming on board in 2022 compared to past provosts.
He averred that the college had witnessed tremendous transformation since Dr. Richard Otubaku came on board as FCE’s provost, challenging the petitioners of Otubaku to take a critical look at the provost’s track records, compare them with records of past administrators, and see if Otubaku’s track records would surpass those of past administrators.
“The man has done well in the area of infrastructural development and administrative discipline. You can see that there is relative peace in the institution, with no student unrest. The protest you witnessed was carried out by neither students nor staff.”
A counter-petition on a purported allegation against the provost by a section of Obudu Urban Ward 1, Cross River State, signed by National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) secretary Ipong Ward Comrade Beshel Moses and 33 others urged the federal government to throw the petition by Otubaku’s attackers into the trash can.
