NSCDC Launches Manhunt For Killers Of Officer In Bayelsa Attack

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commended the courage and resilience of its personnel who came under attack by unknown gunmen during a pipeline protection duty in Igbomotoru community, Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State.

The Commandant of NSCDC in Bayelsa State CC Eweka Edenabu Douglas, while confirming the attack that claimed the life of one officer, CAI Victor Ofem Ibang, and left three surveillance staff injured, said a manhunt has already been launched to track down and bring the assailants to justice.

He reassured the public of its commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure in the Niger Delta region and called for cooperation from residents in providing useful information to aid the investigation.

Commandant Eweka, who condoled with the family of the late officer, noted that the necessary rites and benefits would be accorded him in due course and assured that the Corps will continue to clamp down on vandals in the state.

He said, “The incident occurred at about 15:30 hours on Thursday 10th day of April 2025, the joint patrol team was returning from a clampdown operation where they were ambushed and exchange of gunfire took place but unfortunately the NSCDC lost one of its personnel.

“The NSCDC as the leading Agency in the Protection of critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the Nation will not be deterred by any attack by vandals which aim is to sabotage the effort of Government in eradicating bunkery activities in the Niger Delta region.

“The NSCDC High Command commended the courage and resilience of the combined team despite the ambushing of the team, meanwhile a man hunt has been launched for the assailants in order to bring them to book.

“The remains of the slain officer, CAI Victor Ofem Ibang, has been deposited at the morgue as the Corps condoles with the family.”
