The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis, describing him as a beacon of compassion and a global advocate for the vulnerable, particularly those affected by HIV/AIDS.

The Director General of NACA, Dr. Temitope Ilori, extended heartfelt condolences to the Vatican, the Community of Sant‘Egidio, the Catholic Caritas Foundation in Nigeria (CCFN), and the entire Catholic Church worldwide, acknowledging the immense loss felt across faith and health communities.

“Pope Francis was not only a spiritual leader but also a relentless advocate for the marginalised. His unwavering support for the global response to HIV/AIDS reminded us all of the vital role love, mercy, equity, faith, and humanity play in public health,“ she said.

Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis consistently used his platform to promote dignity, care, and inclusion for people living with HIV/AIDS, challenging stigma and pushing for access to healthcare for all, especially the poor and underserved.

NACA affirmed that his legacy would continue to serve as an inspiration in the agency’s mission to ensure no one is left behind in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
