Bandits Attack Sokoto Village, Kill 3

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the Friday night attack on Baraya community in the Gwadabawa local government area of the State, during which three persons were killed.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Ahmed Rufai, while speaking with our correspondent on Saturday, said bandits stormed the community located along Illela and attacked residents, killing three in the process.

“They attacked the community on Friday night and killed three people.They also rustled many animals belonging to the villagers, according to the report available to us.

“We immediately mobilised our men from the Salame Division of the Nigeria Police, and our officers are currently in the bush pursuing the bandits,” the Police spokesman said.

He, however, assured that the Command was doing everything within its power to restore peace across the state.

Meanwhile, a source disclosed to LEADERSHIP that a team of security operatives was swiftly deployed to the scene and engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat without successfully rustling any livestock.

A resident of the community who spoke about the attack said security forces were alerted promptly to avert more casualties.

He said, “despite the quick response, some of the injured victims later died. The victims succumbed to their injuries and were confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.”

Troops also recovered some items at the scene of the attack, including three empty shells of AK-47 ammunition.
