SONA: Yobe Higher Education Commissioner Presents ‘Hall Of Fame’ Award To Gov Buni

The Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has been presented with the Hall of Fame award from the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA) conferred on him over his commitments to science and research.

The Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA) a non-profit organization registered in Nairobi, Kenya in 1993 and functions as the umbrella organisation for the regional and national neuroscience societies and groups in Africa had in the last two weeks honored and inducted Governor Mai Mala Buni with an Honorary ‘Hall of Fame’ Member of the Society and he was represented in Marrakech, Morocco by Prof. Muhammad Bello Kawuwa Commissioner for Higher Education and Barrister Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, Chairman, Yobe State University Governing Council.

A statement issued by the director general Press Affairs and Media to the Governor, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed said the award was formally presented to the governor by the Yobe State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Bello Kawuwa.

Prof. Kawuawa said the Society has while presenting the award to the governor said they are proud of his commitment to science and research, making him the first political leader to be admitted into the Society’s hall of fame.

“The society expressed its readiness to support the Yobe State Biomedical Research and Training center as a regional hub for science and research in Africa.

The scientists urged Governor Buni to institutionalise a funding programme through a legal framework with a dedicated budget for sustainability.

“Investments into Science and Research programmes take time to mature but it attracts global partnership with numerous benefits to the people including generations yet unborn,” Prof. Bello emphasized.

Responding, Gov. Buni said his administration is always driven by programmes that puts the state first, assuring the commitment of his administration towards supporting science, research and innovation.

“Government would continue to invest into programmes and projects with direct impact on the lives of our people.

“While working on the present, we also consider investing in the future of our state and the generations yet unborn,” Governor Buni said.
