The Yobe State Governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni (Chiroman Gujba) has received in audience the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Yobe chapter led by its chairman, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Karage at the government house, Damaturu.
A statement from the press secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Mai Suleh said the governor represented by his Deputy, Hon Idi Barde Gubana explained that his administration remained committed to addressing issues relating to the union amidst competing other demands.
The governor assured that the government will continue to give priority attention to the Yobe State University with a view to enhancing academic and physical structures for better development.
He appealed to ASUU to remain calm and continue to engage with the government as his administration is working out modalities for amicable response on issues raised by the members.
Buni used the forum and called for mutual understanding between the government and the union stressing that one of the objectives of the union was to organise and represent the interest of the academic staff of the state university, ensuring just and proper condition of service.
The ASUU chairman, Yobe chapter, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Karage has while speaking said they were at Government House to advocate for better funding of the state university in order to enhance conducive and better atmosphere for effective teaching, learning and research.
The chairman, who appreciated the Buni led administration for giving scholarships to students, especially law, appealed to the government to look into other issues affecting the University.
He expressed satisfaction with the Government for giving scholarships to the families of the less privileged to study within and outside the country.
