The Head of the Gender Unit at the Federal Capital Territory Education Secretariat, Uduakobong Umossoh, has urged the People to Speak Out as Victims to End Gender-Based Violence in the Country.

Umossoh made the statement during a one-day Sensitisation on “Awareness Creation to Prevent Gender/Sexual Based Violence” at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, International Headquarters Annexe, Wuye, Abuja.

She emphasises the need for parents to orient their wards on gender base violence, equip them with the necessary information on what to avoid and what to do when faced with the challenge of sexual violence to get help.

She said, “Gender based violence is a violation of human rights and public health concerns, because victims in most cases are affected with injuries, sexually transmitted diseases, trauma and depression that can lead to death.

In most societies, Men are seen to be aggressive, controlling, and dominant, while Women are seen to be weak and subtle, which has caused abuse in many marriages.”

“Hence, speaking out is key to get help; there are many bodies saddled with the responsibility to provide the necessary support to victims to reduce gender based violence in society.”

Also, the Coordinator, Women Foundation, and Wife of the Senior Regional Overseer, MFM, Wuye, Pastor Mrs Oluwayemisi Etomi, while commending the participants, said that her office is available to any victim who may need prayers and counseling for healing and, where necessary, redirects the victim to the appropriate authorities for further action.
