The revered broadcaster and advocate for Nigeria’s marginalised, Ahmad Isah, known as the “Ordinary President” of Brekete Family, is alive and well, taking a rare and much-needed rest, according to Abdullahi O Haruna Haruspice, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of World Entourage Magazine.
In a statement titled “Ordinary Ahmad Isah – The Lion Is Resting, Not Fallen” posted on Facebook on Sunday, Haruspice sought to quell swirling rumours of Isah’s disappearance, which had sparked panic among his millions of followers.
“Let us stop the panic. Let us kill the rumours,” he urged, clarifying that Isah is neither missing nor defeated but simply pausing to recuperate after nearly two decades of relentless activism.
Isah, a household name in Nigeria, has been a tireless advocate for the voiceless through his daily radio programme on Brekete Family, which airs on Human Rights Radio.
“Rising at 4 a.m. each day, he prepares to take on the grievances of the cheated, oppressed, and forgotten. From 7 a.m., he is on air, amplifying their cries, and by noon, he meets face-to-face with a steady stream of citizens seeking justice.
“His work often stretches late into the night, a routine unbroken except by personal tragedies, such as the death of his first Wife, or violent attacks by those threatened by his pursuit of truth.
“I have known Ahmad Isah for 16 years. I have seen him live a life that borders on the superhuman. In all those years, he has never rested — not even for a single day. Not willingly,” Haruspice wrote.
He described Isah as a “force” and a “guardian standing between the helpless and the mighty,” whose unwavering commitment has made him a target of admiration and hostility.
The rumours of Isah’s disappearance come as Nigeria grapples with rising insecurity and shrinking civic space, making his absence from the airwaves all the more conspicuous.
Yet Haruspice framed this moment not as a retreat but as a necessary pause for a man who has borne the weight of millions.
“Even the lion must, once in a while, retreat to heal its wounds. Even the fiercest warriors must lay down their arms and rebuild their strength,” he said.
Haruspice called on Nigerians to honour Isah’s sacrifice with prayers rather than fear, expressing gratitude for his decision to prioritise his health.
“When he roars again, the sound will shake the walls of injustice even harder than before,” he predicted.
